Niagara County Community College had a pair of champions and five other place in the top six at this past weekend's Ben McMullen Open hosted by Muskegon Community College.
Sophomore Frankie Gissendaner continued his strong start to the season, finishing 5-0 in the 149-pound bracket. Gissendaner won one match via pinfall and four others by decision, including a 3-1 win over Olivet College's Hunter Murphy in the finals. Gissendaner is now 13-0 on the season.
Classmate Jordan Bushey also remained unbeaten as he went 4-0 in the 184-pound bracket. His last two wins came via pinfall, including the championship victory over Grayson Richter of Alma College. Bushey is now 11-0 on the year.
Freshman Devin Van Lengen was runner-up at 197 pounds after a 3-1 record, freshman Mason Gray won four matches to take third at 149 pounds and fellow first-year grappler Christian Robinson took fourth at 157 pounds with three pins. Sophomore Jacob Bell (125) and freshman Josh Thibeault (174) were sixth.
The Thunderwolves head to former regional rival Alfred State College for a pair of dual meets that start at 10 a.m. Saturday.
