Brockport Places Four Wrestlers at Invite
Two seventh place finishes for Golden Eagles against Division I competition
Brockport's Asher Kramer finished eighth in the 125-pound bracket at the Brockport/Oklahoma Invitational
Junior Eric Velez (Medina, NY/Medina) and freshman Matt Brozovic (Johnson City, NY/Maine-Endwell) finished in seventh place in their respective brackets for The College at Brockport Wrestling team Saturday afternoon at the 16th Annual Brockport/Oklahoma Invitational in the Special Events recreation Center in Brockport.
Brockport also had place finishers at 125 pounds with Asher Kramer (Sloatsburg, NY/Suffern) and at 157 pounds with freshman James Devine III (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) each finishing in eighth place.
Oklahoma won the team title for the 16th consecutive year with 173.5 points, Lock Haven was second with 154 points followed by Kent State (120 points), Army (106), Buffalo (103), Bloomsburg (50) and Brockport (21.5).
The Most Outstanding Wrestler was awarded to Oklahoma's 133-pound champion Cody Brewer, the Fastest Pin Award went to Oklahoma's Jon Townsend with an :11 second fall and the Aggregate Pin Award went to Oklahoma's Ross Larson who recorded three pins in a total time of 5:48 in the 285-pound weight class.
At 133 pounds, Velez pinned his opponent from Army in 4:45 in the battle for seventh place. In the 141-pound bracket. Brozovic finished in seventh place in the 197-pound bracket for the Golden Eagles.
Kramer won his opening bout with an 8-3 decision over Sean Badua from Army before falling by a slim 6-5 score in the quarterfinal round to Lock Haven's Kaleb LeMaire and fell into the consolation half of the bracket. In his first consolation match, Kramer drew another Lock Haven wrestler and posted an 8-7 decision before dropping a second one-point decision to a third Lock Haven wrestler with a 3-2 loss to Jake Field. In the eighth-place bout, Kramer lost a 6-3 decision to Kent State's Ediberto Vinas.
In the 157-pound bracket, Devine fell in his opener 6-2 to a University of Buffalo wrestler before posting a 12-1 major decision in his first consolation bracket bout. Devine dropped an 11-4 decision to a wrestler from Army and lost an 18-5 major decision to another Army wrestler to finish eighth.
