RIT places fourth at Ned McGinley Invitational

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - RIT senior wrestler Colby Giroux placed second at 184 lbs. to lead the Tigers to a fourth-place finish at the Ned McGinley Invitational hosted by King's, Saturday.

The second seed, Giroux beat Brendan Newbury (Stevens) 10-7 in his opening match. He defeated Cory Martin (York) with a fall at 1:44 in the quarterfinals. Giroux lost to No. 4 Isaac Cory (Penn College) in the finals.

Sophomore Josh Harkless placed third at 197 lbs. The second seed won his opening bout with a fall at 58-seconds over Joseph Cosgrove (Scranton) in his opening bout. He pinned No. 7 Hunter Lowe (Wilkes) 1:50 into his quarterfinal match before losing to No. 3 Cameron Butka (Wilkes) 3-2 in the semifinals.

Harkless defeated Jordan DelValle (Rowan) with a 9-1 major decision in the consolation semifinals, and took down No. 4 Spencer Fetrow (Roger Williams) with a 16-6 major decision in the third-place match.

Graduate student Christopher Horton and juniors Michael Glynn III and Logan Patterson each took home fourth place finishes. Top-seeded Horton went 4-2 at 141 lbs. with a win over No. 3 Noah Hunt (12-6) in the consolation semifinal. Glynn went 4-2 as the top seed at 149 lbs. with wins over No. 8 Clinton Patzke (F 1:25) and teammate graduate student Joey Brillo (F 2:14) in the consolation semifinals. Patterson posted a 4-2 mark, falling in the third-place match at 133 lbs.

Brillo and sophomore Nate DeGroff (285 lbs.) each placed fifth.

RIT returns to action on Sunday (Nov. 13) at the Ohio Intercollegiate Open at 9:00 a.m.
