LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall wrestling team has announced the hiring of Anthony Noto as a full-time assistant coach to W. Roy Phillips '34 Head Wrestling Coach Mike Rogers' staff for the 2026-27 season. Noto brings an impressive background to the Diplomats as he was a two-time All-American and four-time national qualifier during his collegiate career at Lock Haven.
Noto's addition to the coaching staff was made possible by the continued philanthropic support of F&M Wrestling and the entire athletic department by Ken Mehlman '88. In addition to his establishment of another full-time coaching position for the Division I wrestling team, Mehlman's historic $7.5 million gift supported the creation of the Mehlman Center for Strength, Conditioning, Wellness and Performance Center, which will begin construction in less than a year. Mehlman further supported the wrestling program earlier this year with the announcement of a gift to establish the James Conway '26 Wrestling Scholarship.
"We are incredibly grateful to Ken Mehlman for his unwavering commitment to Franklin & Marshall Wrestling," said Rogers. "His generosity allows us to invest in our student-athletes by expanding our coaching staff and providing the resources necessary to continue building a championship-caliber program. Anthony is exactly the type of coach we were hoping to add, and this hire represents another important step in the continued growth of our program."
Noto arrives in Lancaster after an extraordinary career at Lock Haven University, where he established himself as one of the nation's elite wrestlers. He captured four Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championships, became a four-time NCAA Division I National Championships qualifier, and earned NCAA Division I All-America honors twice, placing fourth nationally in 2023 before improving to a third-place finish in 2024.
In addition to his NCAA success, Noto won the 2022 U23 National Championship at 57 kilograms and was named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler. He was also recognized as the MAC Freshman of the Year, a two-time MAC Wrestler of the Year, and built a reputation as one of the nation's most consistent competitors.
Noto's success extended well beyond the wrestling mat. A Lock Haven Scholar-Athlete and NCAA Academic All-American, he graduated magna cum laude from Lock Haven in 2024 with a bachelor's degree in sport management, then earned his master's degree in sport administration in 2026.
Rogers added, "Throughout our search, we were looking for someone who could immediately impact our student-athletes on and off the mat. Anthony possesses an exceptional wrestling mind, a relentless work ethic, and a genuine passion for developing young men. He understands what it takes to compete and succeed at the highest level of Division I wrestling, and I believe he has an incredibly bright future as a coach."
"Anthony and I share a unique connection as former Lock Haven All-Americans, and I know firsthand the values that program instills. More importantly, we share a passion for developing young men both on and off the mat. Anthony is an exceptional technician, a relentless worker, and someone who genuinely cares about helping student-athletes reach their full potential. I believe he'll have an immediate impact on our program and help us continue building toward our goal of competing among the nation's best."
Before beginning his collegiate career, Noto starred at Honeoye Falls-Lima High School in New York, where he compiled an outstanding 174-6 career record while winning four New York State Championships. He was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler three times, earned three High School All-America honors, and was consistently ranked among the nation's top recruits by FloWrestling, InterMat, and The Open Mat. His remarkable high school career also included recognition as the AGR Wrestler of the Year three times, a New York State Wrestling Hall of Fame Award, and a proclamation establishing "Anthony Noto Day" in his hometown of Lima, New York.
In addition to his accomplishments as a competitor, Noto has already begun building an impressive coaching résumé. During his time at Lock Haven, he helped mentor Division I student-athletes while gaining valuable experience in athlete development, technical instruction, and film analysis. His commitment to individualized development and relationship-building made him an ideal fit for the culture Rogers has established at Franklin & Marshall.
"This hire reflects our commitment to building a championship-caliber program. With the generous support of Ken Mehlman and the addition of Anthony to our staff, we're continuing to invest in the people and resources that will help Franklin & Marshall Wrestling compete at the highest level while providing an outstanding experience for our student-athletes."
Noto joins a Franklin & Marshall program that is coming off one of the most successful seasons in school history. During the 2025-26 campaign, the Diplomats recorded program records with seven EIWA place winners and 56.5 team points at the EIWA Championships, while continuing to establish themselves among the conference's top programs. The team also continued its tradition of academic excellence, reflecting the program's commitment to success both on the mat and in the classroom.
