Twenty-three preliminary and semi-final bouts were held on the
opening night of the first annual city interscholastic wrestling
tournament held at Madison Junior High gymnasium last evening. The
survivors, twenty-three from East High School, which had the largest
number of men entered, will compete to-night in the finals.
The closest match of the evening was between
MacNab
of West High,
and Bill Meyers, East High, in the 147-pound event. The Occidental
wrestler obtained a head scissors on the East High man, who broke
it, only to be thrown with a body hold three seconds before the
close of the bout. Sam Krepack, East High, and Gary Odell, West
High, staged a fast bout, the Oriental winning with a body hold
after having the worst of the affair in the beginning. Another
interesting bout in the 160-pound class was that in which Koch threw
Bertinni in the latter's third bout.
