The individual interscholastic wrestling championship preliminaries
will be held this afternoon at Madison Junior High gymnasium. East
High, West High, Technical High, Kodak High and Charlotte High have
entered their best mat artists in an effort to make a creditable
showing. The finals will be held to-morrow night.
About twenty-five men from East High and about fifteen each from
West High and Technical High and a representation from Charlotte and
Kodak Highs promise to make the affair the most successful
individual wrestling tournament ever staged. The meet is being
conducted by the city department of physical education.
Some of last year's champions are still in school and they will be
forced to step the limit in order to hang onto laurels they won last
year. Pete Bartholomeo, of Technical High, who won the heavyweight
honors last season should meet some real opposition when he tackles
Krepack, the East High heavy. Should these two come together in the
finals which seems almost a certainty, a battle will be provided the
fans. This meeting would be the third one this year and would be the
rubber match. Krepack won the first tussle and Batholomeo the
second. Another attraction should be the fight for honors in the
147-pound class between Meyer, the East High captain, and kress, of
Technical High.
Barons, of West High, who was interscholastic champion in the
108-pound class last year, seems destined to lose his laurels this
year unless he shows a big improvement over his form this season.
The matches will be to a fall if gained within nine minutes. After
nine minutes a decision will be rendered by the two judges and the
referee. In case of a tie at the end of the first nine minutes the
grapplers will wrestle two extra three-minute periods to a fall or
decision. Fred Weismuller of the Central Y.M.C.A. will referee.
