The interscholastic individual wrestling championship meet will be
held Thursday afternoon and Friday evening at Madison Junior High
gymnasium. This is an annual affair held under the direction of the
Department of Physical Education. To the winners in each class goes
the individual mat championship of the city high schools for the
year. First-place winners will be rewarded with a gold medal and the
second-place men will receive a silver medal.
This meet is open to every student of good standing in the public
high schools even though they have not been on the school team.
Competition will be open to all the classes the schools have
competed in for the year. Keen competition is expected when the
cream of the scholastic mat artists get together. The preliminaries
will be held Thursday afternoon and the finals Friday night.
Entries are expected from East High, West High, Technical High,
Kodak High, and Charlotte High. The classes listed are: 108 pounds;
112 pounds; 118 pounds; 126 pounds; 135 pounds; 146 pounds; 165
pounds and the heavyweight class.
These are some of last year's champions still in school but they
will have to step to hold their honors. Batholomeo is expected to
have a tough time in the heavyweight class with Krepack, of East
High. These two have met twice and the honors are even. Baron, last
year's winner in the 108-pound class has been defeated more than
once this year and Schwartz, of Technical High, is the favorite in
this class.
The winner will be decided by falls. The grapplers will wrestle for
nine minutes, and if at the end of that time and extra six-minute
period be necessary a judge's decision will be given at the end of
15 minutes.
