ArmDrag.com is looking for volunteers to help populate the Archives.
We're not only looking for results, but tournament brackets, photos, and
articles as well. Many college and public libraries have microform copies
of complete newspapers dating back over 100 years. In them, you can find
lots of wrestling results. If you enjoy doing research, and you have some time,
make a trip to the library and check it out. Ask a librarian how to get
started and how to print out the articles that you find.

The East
High Wrestling team finished second place in the interscholastic
league after some of the closest competition that has been offered
in several years.
Tech High, West High and East High all were forced to arrange extra
meets to decide the city league winner, which proved to be Tech
High. Wrestling has been steadily increasing in popularity owing to
the pep Coach McKay has put into the teams each year. (The Orient,

East High's
wrestling team won over the West High grapplers yesterday afternoon at
West High gymnasium, 24 to 20. Coach Hulek's squad did better than was
expected, winning just as many matches as the Eastsiders, buy McKay's
men won all theirs by falls while two of West High's wins were by virtue
of judge's decisions. The Occidentals have practically a new team this
year and did well against the strong East High team. The win is the
second in as many starts for the Purple and White, which puts them in
the lead in the public high school race. Every other team in the league
has lost at least one meet.
The Eastsiders
were handicapped somewhat by the loss of Freckleton, star heavyweight
performer, but Paine, wrestling in his place, put up a hard battle,
losing to Filley by judge's decision after nine minutes of wrestling.
None of the eight matches was won easily.
Benz, new star of the East High team, won in the shortest length of
time, 3 minutes and 4 seconds over Magro, of West. Shapiro, East High
captain, had his hands full with Milligan, a newcomer of the West High
team.
The most
interesting match on the program was that between Krank, veteran of the
West High team, and Fancy. Fancy was substituted in Emanuel's place for
the Orientals. Krank is the best man in the city in his class and knows
many tricks of the mat game. Fancy wrestled the Westsider on even terms
for the first five minutes. After he had weakened Krank clamped a body
scissors to pin his shoulders to the mat.
The Eastsiders
took the lead early in the meet but the Occidentals came back strong
winning three out of four matches. Knight performed well for the
Occidentals in the 145 pound class, gaining a judge's decision over
McKay.

East High matmen
had no difficulty keeping up their winning steak in the Rochester City
League yesterday afternoon when Coach McKay's grapplers won from Kodak
High, 36 to 8. Only six of the scheduled classes were put on, the Ridge
road visitors having no entries in the 160 and heavyweight classes.
Kodak matmen won two decisions in the bracket, Miller defeating Woodley
in the 147-pound class and Martin whipping Bucker in the opening event,
the 105-pound class.
At the conclusion
of the meet, Okuniewicz, the Orientals 160-pounder, put on an exhibition
with Freckleton, heavyweight of the homesters. The lighter
grappler was too good for the big boy who failed to get a fall in the
time limit.

The Tech High
wrestling team pulled a surprise last night by scoring an easy victory
over East High, 30 to 10. This puts the Tech team in a tie with the
Orientals, the Eastsiders winning the first match between the two tams
by a narrow margin. McKay's team was minus two if its best men, Shapiro
and Freckleton, but this difference would not have been enough to make
the meet even close. The Tech grapplers showed much improvement over
their previous engagements and are now favorites to cop the city title.
Tech started the scoring when Bell threw Brucker in the 105-pound class.
These two youngters, who are wrestling for their first season, put up an
interesting match but the Tech man showed more mat skill in winning a
fall. Tech took the first five matches on the program and the large
delegation of Tech supporters was cheering for a clean sweep. Newcomb
continued the scoring for Tech by throwing Reitkopf, a substitute who
was taking Shapiro's place, in the fast time of 1 minute 28 seconds.
Jimmy Chaffrey added four more points to the Tech total by gaining a
decision over Benz, one of the best men on the East High team. After
nine minutes of wrestling the judges were unable to make a decision and
the two were forced to wrestle two five-minute overtime periods.
In the next match Bob Bradbury won his twenty-second consecutive victory
by getting a decision on Davidson. For a time at the start Davidson had
the best of the argument but Bradbury was showing his beat at the finish
and he was awarded the decision. Feary won his first match for the
Tech team by getting the decision over Emmanuel after nine minutes. This
brought the total points for Tech up to twenty-four before the
Eastsiders scored a single win. McKay broke the ice in the 145 pound
class when he was awarded the decision over Wilson, a new man on the
Tech team.
Johnny Kress, captain of Tech, finished the scoring for the Joseph
avenue boys by throwing Woodley. Okuniewicz scored six points for East
in the heavyweight class by throwing Bellor.
