ArmDrag.com is looking for volunteers to help populate the Archives.
We're not only looking for results, but tournament brackets, photos, and
articles as well. Many college and public libraries have microform copies
of complete newspapers dating back over 100 years. In them, you can find
lots of wrestling results. If you enjoy doing research, and you have some time,
make a trip to the library and check it out. Ask a librarian how to get
started and how to print out the articles that you find.

Preliminaries of the individual scholastic wrestling tournament will begin this
afternoon at the Central Y.M.C.A. The number of entries from each school is
unlimited, and a large number of contestants is expected to show in all classes
to-day. The regulars of all the local high school teams have registered in the
tournament and any other students, who are not members of the teams, are at
liberty to enter. The semi-finals of the tournament will be wrestled to-morrow
afternoon at the Central "Y" and the winners in these classes will meet in the
finals on Thursday.
Over fifty wrestlers from the six local high schools, East, West, Monroe, Tech,
Kodak and Charlotte, will compete for honors this afternoon. A process of
elimination will be necessary to determine the representatives in the
semi-finals. Tech, East and West, the 'Big Three' of the scholastic wrestling
league, will be represented by strong men in all the classes. The Tech High team
walked off with individual and team honors last year and Coach Hoff is planning
on duplicating the feat this year.
Coach Pete McKay's Orientals have dwindled from a strong team at the start of
the season to one of the weakest teams in the league. Faculty ban and illness
has played havoc with the East High matmen and Coach McKay is wrestling an
entirely different team at present tan that which started the season. Davidson
and Okaneweicz, regulars last season, who started with the team this year, have
both left the school and Captains Sol Shapiro and Bill Benz, winners in their
classes last year, are both on the ineligible list.
Tech, West Strong.
Tech High and West will both be represented with an abundance of materials and
some exciting individual battles should result. In the 147-pound class a
three-way battle is expected. Feary, of Tech, Lapi, of East, and Stelljes, of
West, have been evenly matched throughout the season and it will be a battle
royal in this division. Williams, of Monroe and Seibert, of Tech, seem to be
about the class in the heavyweight division.
Jimmy Chiafery, Tech captain, is the leading aspirant for honors in the
126-pound class although Jardine, of Kodak, is also among the leaders. Felli, of
West, and Selkirk, of Tech, are expected to put on a merry battle in the
160-pound class. Newcomb, Tech High's representative in the 118-pound class,
should have things pretty much his own way as he was throughout the season. The
105-pound class will bring together two determined contenders in Robinson, of
Tech, and Malone, of West.
Winners of first place in each of the eight classes will be presented with gold
medals by the Health Education Department. Silver medals will be given to the
runner-ups in each class. Frederick J. Weismuller of the Central Y.M.C.A. will
referee the bouts.
