E-mail corrections or additions to info@armdrag.com.

ArmDrag.com is looking for volunteers to help populate the Archives.  We're not only looking for results, but tournament brackets, photos, and articles as well.  Many college and public libraries have microform copies of complete newspapers dating back over 100 years.  In them, you can find lots of wrestling results. If you enjoy doing research, and you have some time, make a trip to the library and check it out.  Ask a librarian how to get started and how to print out the articles that you find.

1928-29 East Orientals

Coach: Mr. Robert B. McKay

1928-29 East Orientals Wrestling Team

FRONT ROW: Shapiro, Caccamise, Dentico, Margolis, Mitrano. BACK ROW: McKay, Lapi, Millard, Stephan. (SOURCE: The Orient, East High School, June 1929.)

Wrestling received fresh impetus in the high schools this year. Although there was no loop last year, Coach "Pete" McKay had boys working out all season, and had an experienced squad on hand this year.

The East matsmen breezed through more than half of their schedule with wins, but tough breaks near the end caused them to end up tied for second place with West. Tech occupied the top rung.

Oriental grapplers showed their worth when they copped three of nine championships in the Interscholastic Individual Wrestling Tournament. Tech men won four titles; Charlotte and West, each one. East matmen crowned champions in their respective classes are: Morris Shapiro, scrappy 105-pounder; Anthony Mitrano, 147-pounder; and Norman Millard of the 175-pound division.
