ArmDrag.com is looking for volunteers to help populate the Archives.
We're not only looking for results, but tournament brackets, photos, and
articles as well. Many college and public libraries have microform copies
of complete newspapers dating back over 100 years. In them, you can find
lots of wrestling results. If you enjoy doing research, and you have some time,
make a trip to the library and check it out. Ask a librarian how to get
started and how to print out the articles that you find.

Champion wrestlers of the city high schools will be crowned this afternoon when
18 matmen clash in the finals of nine weight classes at the Benjamin Franklin
High boys gymnasium. Ten members of Tech High's squad, winners of the
Interscholastic League title, will be competing for individual honors today. Two
of the events--the 112-pound class and the and the 135-pound division--will be
all-Shopman events.
East High will be next to Tech in the number of boys entered in the finals with
four representatives. West High will have two; and Monroe High, under Coach Von
Hoef for the first time, makes one of its best showings ever with the same
number of entries.
Frank Reddy, in the 160-pound group, and Jerry DePrez, 175-pounder, both
proteges of Coach Hobart Hoff at Tech, will be the two defending champions this
afternoon. Edward Aratari of East, 112-pounds, and Charles Gala of West,
135-pounds, winners of the crown in their respective classes last year were
defeated in the semi-finals Friday. Sam Polis, 118-pounds, and Thomas Polis,
135-pounds, Tech's star brothers won the city amateur championships in the
Y.M.C.A. tourney two weeks ago and will be out to defend their laurels.
Judging by the closeness of the preliminary matches, every bout this afternoon
should be a thriller. The 126-pound tussle, showing DeFrancisco of Monroe
meeting Bulavinetz of Monroe, promises to be one of the best on the program.
DeFrancisco, wrestling with damaged ears, waded through the stiffest opposition
to reach the finals. He won over Sam Russo of Franklin, to whom he had lost in
the finals of the city amateur event, for his first-round victory in the
scholastic contest, and beat Bob Ruppenthal of Franklin in the semi-finals.
Bulavinetz is a lanky lad and should cause stocky DeFrancisco plenty of trouble.
Another exceptionally cloase battle is looked for in the 147-pound division
having Spronza of Tech meeting Vollo, Oriental. Spronza, veteran grappler, lost
out in the finals last year to Gene DiPietro of East and is out for a title to
wind up his career. Vollo powerfully-built newcomer who has picked up plenty of
skill under Coach "Pete" McKay's tutelage.
Reddy, in the 160-pound class, may have more of a battle on his hands than he
bargained for in Lawrence, Oriental. Lawrence surprised by winning over his
team-mate, Wright, in the semi-finals and is regarded as somewhat of a "dark
horse."
The matches will begin at 3:30 o'clock. The public is invited.
