ArmDrag.com is looking for volunteers to help populate the Archives.
We're not only looking for results, but tournament brackets, photos, and
articles as well. Many college and public libraries have microform copies
of complete newspapers dating back over 100 years. In them, you can find
lots of wrestling results. If you enjoy doing research, and you have some time,
make a trip to the library and check it out. Ask a librarian how to get
started and how to print out the articles that you find.

Three defending
champions retained their titles, and one dropped his crown in the
Section 5 Class AA-A High High School Wrestling Championships yesterday
at Brockport State Teachers College.
Madison High's Bob Juliano and Lou Fusilli, along with Jefferson's lone entry - 250-pound
Bob Marella, kept their crowns in the 112, 175 and unlimited divisions,
respectively.
Moses Gilbert of
Madison, Sectional winner last year in the 120-pound class, moved up a
notch this time and won the 127-pound title.
Jack Moracco of
Geneva, the only other 1954 champ, was pinned by East's Nick Sanzotta in
1:58 of their 138-pound semifinal match. Sanzotta went on to take the
laurels in that division, whipping Ed Shervin of Albion on a decision.
City entries
dominated the rest of the finals. Two area finalists managed to salvage
wins in their divisions to keep the Interscholastic League aggregation
from making a clean sweep.
Jim Lewis of
Hornell pinned West High's Dave Kelly in 2:52 in their 103-pound go.
Will Brown of Geneva scored a win in the 133-pound class, coming from a
big point deficit to pin Sam Randazzo of East in 3:37.
In a
well-contested match, the 154-pound final, East High's Billy Noun,
competing in Sectionals for the first time, pinned Bill Smith
of Albion in 2:22. Noun, unbeaten for two years in Interscholastic
League competition, was kept out of the Sectionals last year because of
illness.
Veteran Lou Fusilli of Madison, now three-time champion in the 175-pound class,
scored the quickest victory of the day, pinned Bob Hemmerick of Webster
in 43 seconds.
A surprisingly big
number of pins livened the action for the capacity crowd. In all, seven
of the 11 weight division finals were decided in that matter.
Chuck DeLorenzo of
Spencerport posted one of the two pins in the Class B finals for area
schools, dropping Warsaw's Bob Ellis in 1:24 of their unlimited weight
match. Norm Fugle of Attica scored
the other, over Neil Schaeffer in
the 120-pound battle.
