Archives

E-mail corrections or additions to info@armdrag.com.

ArmDrag.com is looking for volunteers to help populate the Archives.  We're not only looking for results, but tournament brackets, photos, and articles as well.  Many college and public libraries have microform copies of complete newspapers dating back over 100 years.  In them, you can find lots of wrestling results. If you enjoy doing research, and you have some time, make a trip to the library and check it out.  Ask a librarian how to get started and how to print out the articles that you find.

Harry Leary, Charlotte High School senior, won a Section 5 Class A wrestling championship for the third straight year last night in the annual tournament at Ritter-Clark Gymnasium.

Leary, 95-pound champion in 1956 and 103-pound champion last year, had to go overtime to win the 112-pound crown last night. His opponent was Bill Brooks of Geneva. The match score was 1-0.

Only two other Rochester city school grapplers won championships. They were Pat Fedele of Madison in the 95-pound class and Jerry Brunette, also of Madison, in the 138-pound division. Fedele's brother Phil, won three consecutive championships in 1954-55-56. Pat is a freshman.

Bob Alman of Marshall, sectional champ last year in the 120-pound class, lost a good match to Robert Pollino of Geneva.

In another surprissing match, Dave Morracco of Geneva completely outclassed last year's 127-pound champion, Bill Sile of Charlotte, in the 133 grappling. The score was 11-0.

Forty-eight youngsters competed in last night's final matches. The original field listed close to 300.

Tony Beisman of East High, president of Section 5 Wrestling, was in charge of last night's bouts.
