ArmDrag.com is looking for volunteers to help populate the Archives.
We're not only looking for results, but tournament brackets, photos, and
articles as well. Many college and public libraries have microform copies
of complete newspapers dating back over 100 years. In them, you can find
lots of wrestling results. If you enjoy doing research, and you have some time,
make a trip to the library and check it out. Ask a librarian how to get
started and how to print out the articles that you find.

AUBURN ―
Baldwinsville High School copped the annual Auburn Invitational
wrestling tournament here Wednesday night with 62 points. For the second
year in a row, East Rochester High School finished second, this time
with 54 points.
Mynderse Academy of Seneca Falls, which took three titles, was third
with 45 points. The third Section 5 entry, Geneva High, was sixth with
37 points in the eight-team tournament.
Highest honor of the all-day meet which saw 96 grapplers competing went
to Genevan Pete Achilles, who took the 114-pound crown by decisioning
Pete Obit of Syracuse's West Genesee High. It was Achilles' third
championship in as many years. The Section 5 wrestling king had
previously taken the 97-pound class title as well as the 105-pound
division championship. He received the overwhelming vote of the coaches.
Perhaps the most sensational win of the evening, however, fell to Laury
Beinert of Geneva High, a freshman, who won the 95-pound crown by
decision. Beinert won the title captured last year by teammate Lou
Gigliotti, who gets back into action next month after an injury early in
the season.
East Rochester High School moved four gladiators into the finals, but
just one was victorious. He was Jim Tortorici (105), who decisioned Joe
Cristafulli of Oneida High.
Mynderse Academy sent three men into the finals and all three emerged
victorious. They were Paul Stratton (140), Aage Hansen (165) and Jack
Stubbs (180). The victory was particularly sweet to Hansen, who
emigrated from Denmark a few years ago.
The only other champion to repeat was Baldwinsville High's Brandy
Litterbrandt, who decisioned Don Leege of East Rochester, 4-0.
Some 700 fans watched the final round in the Auburn Community College
gym.
While disappointed at his team's showing, coach Joe Morrissette of
Geneva High found some praise for his team. "This was the toughest of
all the tournaments," he said. "Just notice that only one match ended in
a pin, certainly an unusual thing. I was particularly proud of Beinert,
Achilles and Brian Whitaker, although Brian lost a close one."
