Pembroke Pulls No. One At County Tourney Batavia Daily News Monday, February 21, 1977 Pembroke wrestlers were ready to prove that they are number one in Genesee Region and that is what they did. Claiming 93-1/2 points, Pembroke grapplers established themselves as number one. Byron-Bergen, vying for that slot, came in second place. Pembroke also captured MVP. 98-pound Mark McVay landed that honor with a pin in 5:12. There were a few surprises at the tournament. Some of the outstanding contests included: Dan Tupper of Pembrokes last second takedown to defeat Herb Brew (Byron-Bergen) in the semi-finals. Schmeider of Alexander losing to Coppola of Pavilion, but the big match of the day may have been at 177. Czepezka of Pembroke downing Spring of Alexander, an outstanding grudgematch.
