ArmDrag.com is looking for volunteers to help populate the Archives.
We're not only looking for results, but tournament brackets, photos, and
articles as well. Many college and public libraries have microform copies
of complete newspapers dating back over 100 years. In them, you can find
lots of wrestling results. If you enjoy doing research, and you have some time,
make a trip to the library and check it out. Ask a librarian how to get
started and how to print out the articles that you find.

2005-06 Holley Hawks
Matmen extend reign
Holley repeats as league, sectional champs
The Journal-Register (Medina, NY)
Thursday, March 9, 2006
HOLLEY — Making good on an old sports adage, the Holley High School varsity
wrestling squad proved once again this season that the Hawks “don’t rebuild,
they just reload.”
Capping off the banner season by advancing a record 14 wrestlers to the Section
V state qualifier meet, the undefeated Hawks along the way captured their 14th
Genesee Region League title in the last 16 years and their eighth Section V
class title (BBB) in the last nine seasons.
“We started out fairly slowly trying to figure out our weights,” Holley head
coach John Grillo said. “We knew we had 15 solid wrestlers. We just had to
juggle our weights and make the right combination.”
The juggling effort worked to perfection as the Hawks captured the G-R crown
with a 7-0 record and finished the regular dual match season at 10-0.
Six members of the Hawks squad captured Class BBB titles including Tim Banks
(96), Justin Widrig (135), Andrew Vendetti (160), Key McPherson (171), Matt
Denning (189) and Casey Doty. Denning, Widrig and McPherson were all repeat BBB
champions.
Holley also had a quartet of second place finishers at the BBB tournament
including Matt Banks (112), Matt Sanders (130), Abe Miller (140) and Keith
Miller (215).
Tim Banks, Vendetti, Matt Banks, Widrig, McPherson, Denning and Doty also earned
Genesee-Region All-Star honors.
The Section V state qualifier tournament then saw seven of the Hawks record 14
qualifiers place. Tim Banks and Widrig led the Hawks large contingent with
second place finishes. Matt Banks, Vendetti, Denning and Doty each took a third
place and McPherson a fourth.
Matt Banks, Tim Banks, Doty, Keith Miller, Ryan, Sanders, Vendetti and Widrig
all topped the 30 victory mark on the season while Rob Baylor, McPherson, Abe
Miller and Justin Thomas each registered at least 20 wins.
“It was a good time this season,” said Grillo, who surpassed the milestone 400
career coaching wins mark during the season. “We peaked at the right time both
as a team and as individuals.”
