Madison Matmen Win City Wrestling Crown
Madison won the city high school wrestling championships last night at John Marshall, scoring 45-1/2 points as its nearest competitor, Jefferson, scored 29-1/2. East was third with 29 points.
Madison's grapplers won five of the 12 bouts, including one pin by Louis Fusilli, who floored Robert Wright of Monroe in 5:21 of their 175-pound go.
To start off Madison's winning ways, Phil Fidele decisioned Dave Egan of Marshall, 8-6, in the 95-pound class, Bob Juliano gave the Wilson Parkers their second victory when he decisioned Gerry Paternico of Jefferson, 7-3, in the 112-pound go.
Moses Gilbert ran up Madison's point-total with a decision over Franklin's Tony Palmiere, 7-1, in the 120-pound class. Tony DeSimone and Price Turner upped the count with successive decisions which took the referee to decide. DeSimone beat Nick Sanzotta of East, 4-4, in the 138-pound division and Turner edged Sandy Petromalo of Franklin, 5-5, in the 145-pound scrap.
